Pour the coffee · the big one is a skip
The year’s biggest door ends Thursday, July 30, at 11:59 PM ET. Most of you should walk past it.
Every Saturday, First Officer reads the week in loyalty programs and hands you what matters. This week the read is harder to say out loud: the largest transfer bonus of the year ends Thursday, July 30, at 11:59 PM ET, and for most wallets the right move is to let it go. Here is the arithmetic behind that.
What it means for your wallet
Stronger. A quiet 20% door: Bank C to Airline E at 1:1.2 through Saturday, August 22. Into a currency we value near 1.5 cents, that returns about 1.8 cents per point, nearly double what the headline bonus returns.
Weaker. The 100% Hotel D bonus has a floor problem. Hotel D sells its own points near 0.5 cents, so doubling into them lands near 1.0 cent per Bank A point. The biggest number on the board is the smallest return on it.
Window. The 100% window ends Thursday, July 30, at 11:59 PM ET, then reopens Friday, July 31, at 70% through Monday, August 31. The door narrows. Panic transfers are the trap.

One window, one example
Last Saturday this page dated a window to Saturday, July 18, at 11:59 PM ET. R. moved 80,000 points through it before lunch.
After that window, the same example at the standard ratio lands 20,000 fewer points, roughly $460 less in hotel credit by our valuation. A fictional example, figures est.

Read the two boards together and the week has a shape. Southern Europe cooled once the Hotel C window passed July 18. The volume moved to Paris and Amsterdam on a 20% bonus, while the 100% door drew a deadline rush our desk mostly declined to join. The loudest door is rarely the widest one.It is the same read the desk points at your wallet, the moment you send it.

Bar length is time left, not size. Bank A to Hotel D at 1:2 ends Thursday, July 30, at 11:59 PM ET, then reopens Friday, July 31, at 1:1.7 through Monday, August 31. Bank C to Airline E was dated to Saturday, August 22, and is the quiet winner of the week. Bank B to Airline A and Bank D to Airline B both end Friday, July 31, and on Airline B the bonus still loses: Bank C moves its points there at 1:1 every day of the year.

One airline is matching elites from two other carriers into its program, and its top tier maps to top alliance status: lounges and priority across the alliance. At $349 it is the cheapest top alliance status on the market this year. It is tightly targeted, so it only reads as value if you already hold status somewhere else.

We value Hotel D points at 0.5¢, and Hotel D itself sells them at that price several times a year. Double them and 1,000 Bank A points buy about $10 of Hotel D currency: roughly 1.0¢ per Bank A point, then 0.85¢ from Friday, July 31. One lever changes the answer. A co-branded Hotel D card makes the fourth award night free, which lifts a four-night stay to about 1.33¢ per Bank A point. That is the test.

We are watching this one rather than pointing at it: a program with no devaluation record has nothing to read yet.

Monthly credit lines do not roll. Hotels led for the first time since spring, at 31% against 24% last Saturday, while flights slid from 34% to 28%. That is the Hotel C door and the Hotel D deadline pulling value indoors. The mix moves with the board, which is the argument for reading the whole board rather than one wallet.
